This post was introduced in Routes to Bushfalling. I will recommend you read Routes to Bushfalling before coming to back here.
Going through the whole process of studento bushfalling, I prefer we start with the motives. For everything one does in life, there must be a motive; a reason, something pushing one to do it. Why are you pursuing a studento visa? There are two possible answers to this. Either you really want to go and study in bush and enhance your career OR you just want to get a studento visa to help you fall bush and pursue something else when you get there.
Now, let’s examine the situation of someone who is really serious about wanting to study in bush. If you fall under this category, I am very proud of you. But you know, success us difficult to come by where there is no focus. You must be able to analyse all the possible reasons why you will prefer to leave the universities that are in Cameroon and study in bush. I have highlighted some reasons why most people will prefer studying in bush than in Cameroon.
- Availability of programmes: this is not a fact that anyone can argue against. It is very certain that there are more courses and degree programmes in bush than in Cameroon. Uncleche, for example, will like to study for a degree in sound engineering. Where can he do that in Cameron?
- Quality of education: schools in bush have well equipped libraries and laboratory, which are far better than those we can afford in Cameroon. If the law of proportionality applies in this case, then students studying in bush will have better education than those studying in Cameroon.
- Opportunities after studies: what is available for degree students that graduate in Cameroon? They join the most popular and highest employer of all time? Yes. SHOMENCAM is ready to make them jobless. If you claim those students are not serious with their search for jobs, please help them. The fact remains. There are far more opportunities for students who graduate in bush than for those who graduate in Cameroon.
- Free studies: students in Cameroon with very good academic records have a great chance of having scholarships in bush. Some scholarships are partial, others are full, and better still some are full plus numerous “gifts. I have a friend in Belgium who has a full scholarship plus flight, plus an allowance of 200 pounds. We don’t have such opportunities here in Cameroon.
- Cheaper studies: I hope you don’t get amazed when I say schools in bush are at times cheaper than those in Cameroon. In the real sense of it, it is not true but let’s look at it this way. A Cameroonian will prefer to buy you a bottle of beer for 500frs when you are with him in the bar, than to give you 100frs for a pen when you are both on campus. Same with our relatives in bush. Most of them will prefer to pay 10 million frs for our studies in bush than to pay 750,000 frs for us to take a masters program in UB. Strange, but we must accept It that way.
- Pride and prestige: I had a lecturer who was very proud of himself because he had his degree from a university in London. At times, I am sure that is one of the reasons we want to study in bush. It gives us the ability to lift our heads and stand up tall.
If you plan to study in bush for any of the above reasons, I don’t see anything wrong with it. Just believe in yourself. Set dreams that are bigger than you and struggle to meet up with them. That’s life. My personal philosophy is that nothing is easy. Not even the one that looks easy.
On the other side, if you want a studento visa just to move your head away from this country, I must confess I don’t have even the least idea of what you will possibly do in bush. Work? Maybe you should write a post about it and let us know.
Watch out for part 2 of Studento Bushfallin...
